For many years, there has been a heated argument over who is the better player between Ronaldo and Messi.
For more than a decade, the pair were unquestionably the best footballers on the planet, and their rivalry was at its pinnacle as they battled for victory at Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Former Manchester United star Ronaldo left Madrid for Juventus in 2018, and Messi’s storied career at the Nou Camp has come to an end after the club was unable to sign him to a new contract three years later and he has joined PSG.
When asked about Ronaldo and Messi in 2015, Sir Alex Ferguson explained what set them apart from their colleagues.
He stated, ” “Of course, it’s only an opinion; there will be a hundred managers across the world who will say, “Well, my player, and my player, and my player,” or whatever the hyperbole about a world-class player is.
“The reason I mention Ronaldo and Messi is because of their consistency. Their poise, skill on the ball, and bravery are never harmed by a tackle; they rise up and say, “Give me the ball.”
“The goals they score, the level at which they play, the medals they’ve won all lead to one thing: those two players – and I believe most players, if not all, would agree with me – these two men are above everyone, without a doubt.
“They’re amazing to watch and never miss a game. They don’t seem to miss a game… they’re always playing. They’ve brought value to everyone on the planet, and they’re always playing.”
When asked which of the two players was the clear number one, Ferguson smiled and said, “Ronaldo’s my boy.” Choosing Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi.
