Cristiano Ronaldo has informed Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri that he will remain at the club for the remainder of the season.
Ronaldo’s future has become a hot topic with less than a year left on his contract. Recent rumours linking him to a number of clubs, including Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and even Manchester City, have been nearly non-stop.
The Portuguese ace slammed the insulting talk on Instagram on Tuesday, and now Allegri is attempting to put an end to it as the new season begins this weekend.
“He’s always been a good athlete. I was simply reading the newspaper buzz. In a press conference on Saturday, Allegri added, “He never told us he wanted to leave.”
“Ronaldo told me that he is staying at Juventus,” the Bianconeri coach stated.
The absence of Ronaldo from Thursday’s friendly has been explained
Allegri also clarified Ronaldo’s absence from Juventus’ first-team and Under-23 teams’ pre-season friendly on Thursday.
The Italian revealed that he simply rested his star forward after the 3-0 win, and that he expects him to score goals for Juventus again this season.
“We were coming off a huge training workload on Thursday, so I gave Ronaldo a half-day off,” Allegri explained.
“He is a bonus for us because he ensures a high amount of goals. To get the best out of one individual, we obviously need to operate as a team.”
Juventus will kick off their Serie A season against Udinese on Sunday evening.
