According to Fabrizio Romano, Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Manchester United’s return to preseason training today due to “family circumstances.”
According to BBC Sport, the 37-year-old attacker has asked to leave the Red Devils this summer because he still believes he can contribute to a team that will compete in the Champions League next year.
Despite the Portuguese superstar’s great individual season, in which he scored 24 goals in 38 games, the season was a disaster for the team. The Red Devils did not finish in the top four of the Premier League or win a title.
They finished sixth in the league and were eliminated in the first round of both domestic cups (the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup). They were eliminated from the Champions League in the round of 16 by Atletico Madrid.
Cristiano Ronaldo is thought to be dissatisfied with the summer transfer window. The Red Devils have yet to sign their first player under Erik ten Hag.
According to Italian writer Romano, Manchester United have accepted Ronaldo’s explanation for missing the first day of pre-season training, despite the fact that the new Premier League season begins in just over a month.
