“Teach the new pup that there is life in the old dog,” says Silvestre, urging Cristiano Ronaldo to defeat Erling Haaland to the Golden Boot

Mikael Silvestre, a former UEFA Champions League winner, has pushed Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Premier League Golden Boot next season.

Despite playing for a struggling Manchester United, Ronaldo finished third in the English Premier League’s goalscoring competition for the 2021-22 season. The Portuguese scored 18 goals and shared the prize with Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min, who each scored 23 goals.

With Erling Haaland’s arrival at Manchester City, many believe he may win the Golden Boot next season. The 21-year-old joins the race after scoring 86 goals in 89 games for Borussia Dortmund in all competitions.

It’s also worth mentioning that Haaland will take a sabbatical for the 2022 FIFA World Cup because Norway did not qualify for the event. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to skipper Portugal at the Qatar extravaganza, which might be his final chance to win the cherished title.

Silvestre, on the other hand, feels Ronaldo has enough left in the tank to finish the 2022-23 Premier League season as the top scorer. According to the Express, the former Manchester United and Arsenal center-back stated:

“Will Haaland win the Golden Boot?” I’d rather see Cristiano win. He was not far off last season with a dysfunctional club, so why not this season if United works? Teach the little pup that the elderly dog still has life!”

Salah and Harry Kane, he noted, are also contenders for the Golden Boot:

“We have the finest attackers in the Premier League with Harry Kane and Mo Salah, so whomever wins it will earn it.”
