“We are where we want and deserve to be,” Cristiano Ronaldo says following Portugal’s victory against Czech Republic.

Cristiano Ronaldo went to Instagram after Portugal’s 2-0 win against the Czech Republic on June 9 to respond to A Selecao’s current position in their Nations League group.

Although the Portuguese maestro did not score during the game, he commanded the team to a convincing victory, after which he posted the following caption:

“Congratulations, team! We have arrived at our desired and deserved position… #1! Thank you everybody for your support.”

Cristiano Ronaldo had a few chances to score, but Czech goalkeeper Jindrich Stanek made several crucial stops to keep the 36-year-old out of the net. Most notably, Ronaldo shone on the eve of halftime with a dribble that skinned a sliding opponent. Stanek, though, pushed over the subsequent chip towards the near post.

In the 51st minute, the Portuguese maestro was also shown a yellow card for a weak challenge on Czech defender Vaclav Jemelka. Overall, Ronaldo did not shine for Portugal, but the victory propelled them to the top of their group, two points ahead of Spain.
